The code would not be bad if the language had correct rules. The way to fix the situation is to fix the stupid rules, not to treat them as a pons asinorum so that smug superiority can be asserted. The reason programmers have so much trouble with the existing rules is that the existing rules are stupid. Point 4 above places the cart squarely in front of the horse.
